Gundersen Health wind turbine energy project in Cashton

Wind Energy

Wind energy is clean energy that promotes a healthy, sustainable environment. Our wind turbines capture the wind's kinetic energy and convert it into usable power. This process not only helps to lower greenhouse gas emissions but also contributes to energy independence.

Learn more about renewable energy

Generating electricity from the wind

Creating renewable energy with clean resources shows what innovative thinking can accomplish. Our local wind farms harness the power of energy by using wind turbines on rural land. Electricity from wind replaces fossil-fuel energy sources, which studies have linked to serious diseases. That’s why producing clean energy is vital to our mission of improving the health of the world around us.

First community wind farm in Wisconsin

Our health system partners with Organic Valley, the nation’s largest cooperative of organic farmers, to produce wind energy at Cashton Greens Wind Farm. Located near Cashton, Wis., this two-turbine wind farm creates electricity that is fed into our power grid for consumption. The energy is used to power homes and businesses in the area. It was the first community wind farm in the state.

The power of wind revealed

July 2023 - June 2024

  • 10M

    kilowatt-hours (kWh) produced

  • 943

    homes a year powered

  • 7,230

metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) produced

Capturing the wind’s energy in Lewiston

Our Lewiston wind farm leads the healthcare industry in environmental stewardship. This farm was our first renewable energy project in the state of Minnesota. It has two wind turbines just north of Lewiston. The project allows us to create clean energy in our own community, making a positive impact on the local economy. It produces enough electricity to power more than double the number of homes in the city.
