Internal Medicine Residency Research
During your residency, you’ll have the opportunity to pursue research projects to build your portfolio and improve patient care.
Overview
You’ll find bountiful opportunities for clinical research here at Gundersen. We have a full research support staff, including biostatisticians and media specialists who are ready to help you with your research project(s). Staff physicians are also more than willing to form mentoring relationships with you in areas of research.
Our residents have published research in numerous medical journals. Many residents have presented at state and national meetings, and we have a tradition of doing extremely well at the annual American College of Physicians (ACP) Wisconsin Chapter resident competition.
Research fellowships
If you’re looking to further your education after residency and pursue more research opportunities, a fellowship is a great option. Traditionally, 30-40% of our graduates go on to complete a fellowship program at their top choice. For example, some of our residents have transitioned into fellowships at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dartmouth Medical School, the National Institutes of Health, Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Iowa, the Medical College of Wisconsin, Indiana University, the University of Minnesota, the University of Nebraska and other renowned medical centers.
