Ginger Everson Memorial Scholarship

For the Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, Independence and Whitehall School Districts.

Scholarship history

The Ginger Everson Memorial Scholarship was founded in 1973 and honors Virginia “Ginger” Everson, a Whitehall High School student who died in a car accident. She had been accepted into the nursing program at Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wis.

Scholarship details

The Ginger Everson Scholarship will award $1,000 to a recipient enrolled in a four-year program. The funds will be distributed after the completion of the first year.

Or the scholarship will award $500 to a recipient attending a two-year program. The funds will be distributed after the completion of the first year.

At the scholarship committee’s discretion, it also may award additional smaller amounts to deserving applicants.

The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient.

This scholarship is also open to Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics employees.

The Ginger Everson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a deserving candidate pursuing a healthcare-related courses of study. These include:

• medicine
• registered nurse
• licensed practical nurse
• laboratory technologist
• radiology technologist
• pharmacy technician
• registered dietitian
• therapist or therapy assistant
• health information management
• healthcare social work
• healthcare administration

Scholarship committee and determination

The scholarship committee is a team of Gundersen Tri-County patient-care representatives who can best identify the qualities needed for success in healthcare. The committee will award funds based on scholastic ability, financial need and references recommendations.

Scholastic requirements

The scholarship recipient must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average or B average to continue to qualify for the scholarship.

At the end of the first year of study, the recipient will report once by correspondence to the committee of their status and any planned changes. This should include an official transcript. All information submitted will remain confidential.

Application procedure

• Complete the application
• Write a short letter (no more than one page) describing your healthcare goals and why you have chosen a healthcare career
• Enclose three letters of support from references

Deadline

All applications and materials must be received by the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics Foundation by April 19.

Community applicants can submit their applications online or mail to Gundersen Tri-County at the mailing address below.

High-school applicants can submit their applications online or return the application and letter to their high school principal or guidance counselor. If necessary, they will verify information, provide additional support and comments. The guidance counselors will forward all materials to Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics.

Notification

The selection committee will notify the recipient and all applicants of the committee’s decision by mail.

Additionally:

• A permanent file will be kept on each scholarship recipient and the funds awarded.
• The scholarship may be terminated if the recipient drops or changes majors prior to payouts of any scholarship monies; commits an act that would preclude the recipient from working in healthcare; or fails to meet any of the stated criteria.
• The committee may seek additional information from school and other officials in making their scholarship selection.
