About Gundersen Moundview Hospital & Clinics
Gundersen Moundview Hospital & Clinics provides primary, specialty and emergency care in Friendship, Wis., and its neighboring rural communities.
Our commitment to rural healthcare
In 1959, our hospital opened in Friendship, Wis., thanks to the hard work and perseverance of community residents. It took 10 years, with several starts and stops, before the hospital was built. First, there was a donation of land by the Polivka family, followed by recruitment of physician Arthur Weihe, MD, and local fundraising. This fundraising intensified during Friendship’s 1957 Centennial Celebration and was boosted with the founding of the hospital auxiliary (now Partners of Gundersen Moundview).
A lot has changed since then, but our dedication and commitment to maintaining rural healthcare remains. The hospital’s affiliation with Gundersen and the merger between Gundersen and Bellin Health System, now Emplify Health, has enabled us to remain strong. We’ll continue to expand our services and maintain care close to home for generations to come.
Partners of Gundersen Moundview

In 1958, a group of women canvassed area organizations to recruit volunteers for the new hospital under construction in Friendship. They held fundraisers and prepared the hospital for its opening by painting, cleaning and making curtains and linens. This was the beginning of the auxiliary (now Partners) who were led by Marcia Weihe, wife of the hospital’s first chief of staff, Arthur Weihe, MD.
Today, the Partners help support our hospital by raising funds through their gift shop, bake sales, salad luncheon, garage sale and parade of trees. These funds help purchase needed healthcare equipment and local scholarships.
The Partners also provide volunteer support through staffing and operating the hospital gift shop and helping with hospital events.
New Partners members are always welcome. As a member, you determine your level of involvement based on your areas of interest. The annual membership fee is only $5. Learn more about becoming a member by calling the gift shop at (608) 339-8484 or contacting marketing and community relations at (608) 339-8328 or email tklowrey@gundersenhealth.org.
