Wagner Family Endowment established to support the future of local healthcare
In 2021, Harvey Wagner met with Moundview Memorial Healthcare Foundation staff about establishing a tuition fund to help recruit and retain high-need positions at Gundersen Moundview Hospital and Clinics. Unfortunately, he passed away before the project was finalized, but his family has carried his vision forward.
“Harvey’s motto was to give back to the community more than what you have taken from it,” said Aaron Bonnett, director of the foundation and business operations at Gundersen Moundview.
“He and his wife, Bev, were very invested in our communities and hospital. Their children have made it possible for their parents’ legacy to live on by establishing the Wagner Family Endowment," added Aaron.
Helping local healthcare thrive
Harvey and Bev Wagner were life-long residents of Adams County. They contributed to many causes, often without people knowing of their generosity. They also supported many non-profit organizations and events by volunteering. In addition, they knew the importance of maintaining a strong local economy.
Harvey served as president of Grand Marsh State Bank (now One Community Bank) for 40 years and stayed connected to his farming roots by continuing to own and operate Wagner Farms. He served on several boards, including the hospital for 22 years and Adams County Economic Development for more than 35 years.
“Harvey told me you need strong healthcare, banks and schools in order to have a strong community,” said Bonnett. “He knew rural hospitals face many challenges, including the recruitment and retention of staff. His hope was that the Wagner Family Endowment would continue to grow, providing tuition that would help keep local healthcare strong for years to come.”
