Community Investment Healthcare Scholarship

For the Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, Independence and Whitehall School Districts and communities.

Scholarship history

In 2010, the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics Foundation created three Community Investment Healthcare Scholarships for graduating seniors or community members.

Scholarship details

A $1,000 Community Investment Healthcare Scholarship will be awarded to one recipient each in the communities and school districts of Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, Independence and Whitehall. Candidates may be graduating seniors or community members returning to school for healthcare education. This includes employees of Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics.

The Community Investment Healthcare Scholarships will be awarded to three candidates pursuing healthcare-related courses of study. These include:

medicine
registered nurse
licensed practical nurse
laboratory technologist
radiologic technologist
pharmacy technician
registered dietitian
therapist or therapy assistant
health information management
healthcare social work
healthcare administration

The scholarship will be paid to the recipient in one sum in mid-summer after a first successful year of coursework.

Scholarship committee and determination

The scholarship committee is a team of Gundersen Tri-County patient-care representatives who can best identify the qualities needed for success in healthcare. The committee will award funds based on scholastic ability, financial need and references recommendations.

Scholastic requirements

The scholarship recipient must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average or B average to continue to qualify for the scholarship.

At the end of the first year of study, the recipient will report once by correspondence to the committee of their status and any planned changes. This should include an official transcript. All information submitted will remain confidential.

Application procedure

Candidates must be preparing to attend post-secondary institutions to study healthcare and:

Complete the application
Write a short letter (no more than one page) describing their healthcare goals and why they have chosen a healthcare career
Enclose three letters of support from references

All applications and materials must be received by the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics Foundation by April 19.

High-school applicants can submit their applications online, email to [email protected] or return the application and letter to their high school principal or guidance counselor. If necessary, they will verify information, provide additional support and comments. The guidance counselors will forward all materials to Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics.

Notification

The selection committee will notify the recipient and all applicants of the committee’s decision by mail.

Additionally:

A permanent file will be kept on each scholarship recipient and the funds awarded.
The scholarship may be terminated if the recipient drops or changes majors prior to payouts of any scholarship monies; commits an act that would preclude the recipient from working in healthcare; or fails to meet any of the stated criteria.
The committee may seek additional information from school and other officials in making their scholarship selection.

Ginger Everson Memorial Scholarship

For the Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, Independence and Whitehall School Districts.

Scholarship history

The Ginger Everson Memorial Scholarship was founded in 1973 and honors Virginia “Ginger” Everson, a Whitehall High School student who died in a car accident. She had been accepted into the nursing program at Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wis.

Scholarship details

The Ginger Everson Scholarship will award $1,000 to a recipient enrolled in a four-year program. The funds will be distributed after the completion of the first year.

Or the scholarship will award $500 to a recipient attending a two-year program. The funds will be distributed after the completion of the first year.

At the scholarship committee’s discretion, it also may award additional smaller amounts to deserving applicants.

The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient.

This scholarship is also open to Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics employees.

Lisa Rostvold Memorial Nursing Scholarship

For the Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, Eleva-Strum, Independence and Whitehall School Districts.

Scholarship history

The scholarship was founded in 2004 to honor Lisa Rostvold, a 2000 Blair-Taylor High School graduate.

At the time of her death in December 2003, Lisa was a Certified Nursing Assistant at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall and was pursuing a Licensed Practical Nurse Certification at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire.

Scholarship details

The Lisa Rostvold Memorial Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to one recipient in the amount of $1,200. It will be paid in one sum mid-summer after a first successful year of nursing coursework.

The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient.

Candidates may be graduating seniors or community members returning to school for post-secondary nursing training. This also includes employees of Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics.

The scholarship will be awarded to one recipient who:

Is pursuing a degree as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
Demonstrates the need for financial assistance
Demonstrated excellent academic achievement; and
Demonstrated caring and community mindedness
