Inpatient Rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation is about more than recovering from an illness or injury. It’s about helping you maximize your independence and quality of life. During your stay on our rehab unit, you’ll take part in comprehensive therapy programs daily. Your rehab team will include specialized rehab doctors, therapists, nurses and others. On your toughest days, we’ll be here to motivate you. After all, our No. 1 goal is getting you back to your life and the people you love most.

Your rehabilitation team

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists will help you improve your abilities in daily tasks, such as eating, toileting, bathing and dressing.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapists will help you improve your ability to move, manage pain and prevent further disability.

Speech & Language Therapy

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) or speech therapists will work with you on language skills, communication and swallowing, if needed.

Rehabilitation Nursing

Certified rehabilitation nurses will help you achieve optimal function and health while adapting to an altered lifestyle. They provide around-the-clock rehab nursing care.

Rehabilitation Psychology

Our rehabilitation psychologist will help you to adjust and cope with life changes.

Therapeutic Recreation

Recreation therapists may incorporate leisure activities into your treatment plan–helping you thrive physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.

Our goal of Inpatient Rehabilitation is to help you:

  • Recover as much motor function as you can
  • Adapt to any limitations you might have
  • Increase your independence, safety and quality of life
  • Establish diet, exercise and other healthy lifestyle changes
  • Return home
  • Continue your recovery/rehab at home or in an outpatient therapy or exercise program

How to connect

We offer Inpatient Rehabilitation close to home. Talk to your doctor for a referral to our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. You can be admitted from any setting, and admission does not require a three-night hospital stay. Final admission may depend on approval by your insurance provider.

The Aphasia Support Group provides a supportive space to learn ways to improve communication skills alongside others who may have challenges with speaking, understanding speech, reading and writing.

Brain Injury Support Group

Meetings in February, April, June, August, October and December
Gundersen Brain Injury Support Group is open to anyone affected by a brain injury, including caregivers, family and friends. Opportunities to share concerns, socialize, access resources and more.
