Masking is optional at all of our locations. If you’re ill and need our care, please mask to protect our patients, visitors and your care team. Review our guidelines if you’re planning to visit our hospitals or clinics.
Visitor guideline overview
Gundersen Health System does not restrict visitors in most facilities and situations. Children under age 16 may visit but need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
- COVID-positive patients: Adult COVID-positive patients will be allowed 1 visitor at a time with no limit in a 24-hour period. Pediatric COVID-positive patients will be allowed 2 visitors at a time with no limit in a 24-hour period.
- High-risk patients: Visitation for high-risk patients and those with certain communicable diseases is at the care team’s discretion.

Hospital/inpatient visitor guidelines
Hospitalized adult
COVID-positive patients
- 1 visitor at a time, with no limit to number of visitors within a 24-hour period
COVID-negative patients
- No visitor restriction
- Visitation for high-risk patients and those with certain communicable diseases is at the care team’s discretion
- Based on unique patient situation, care unit staff may have discretion to determine number of visitors in the room at one time
Hospitalized child
COVID-positive patients
- Up to 2 visitors at a time, with no limit to number of visitors within a 24-hour period
COVID-negative patients
- No visitor restriction
- Visitation for high-risk patients and those with certain communicable diseases is at the care team’s discretion
- Based on unique patient situation, care unit staff may have discretion to determine number of visitors in the room at one time
Intensive care
COVID-positive patients
- 1 visitor at a time, with no limit to number of visitors within a 24-hour period
COVID-negative patients
- Up to 2 visitors in the room at one time
- Visitation for high-risk patients and those with certain communicable diseases is at the care team’s discretion
Neonatal intensive care
COVID-positive patients
- Up to 2 visitors at a time, with no limit to number of visitors within a 24-hour period
- No visitors under age 18
COVID-negative patients
- Up to 3 support people at one time
- No visitors under age 18
- Based on unique patient situation, care unit staff may have discretion to determine number of visitors in the room at one time
End-of-life care
COVID-positive patients
- Up to 2 visitors at a time, with no limit to number of visitors within a 24-hour period
COVID-negative patients
- Based on the patient and their situation, the care team in collaboration with the patient will determine number of visitors
Inpatient behavioral health
COVID-positive patients
- No visitors permitted
COVID-negative patients
- Up to 4 support people, in the Inpatient Behavioral Health Building, at one time
- Children under 16 may visit but need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult
- Visits are limited to 30 minutes and need to be scheduled by calling (608) 775-3523

Outpatient adult

- Based on the unique patient and their situation, the type of visit and the room size/safety, the patient’s care team will determine number of visitors in the room at one time
