Medicine Sub-Internships Application
Fourth-year medical students can apply for medical clerkships at Gundersen using the form below. We offer 3 inpatient M4 rotations for “Sub I” clerkship rotations in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and the Critical Care Unit, and the Intensive Care Unit and Pulmonary Medicine Critical Care.
Application requirements:
Gundersen receives more applications than it has educational placement opportunities for medical students looking for clinical rotations. Selection is determined by the overseeing clinical department and whether:
- Your medical school is in good standing with accreditation standards of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
- You must be a 4th year medical student in good standing
- You passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Level 1
International students:
If you live outside the U.S., make sure your medical school is listed with COCA or LCME. Before applying, you must:
- Have passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Level 1
- Be enrolled in an institution of higher learning
- If instruction at the home medical school is not in English, applicants must show demonstrated fluency in English with successful completion of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination within the last two years. Eligible students must show proof of a minimum score of no lower than 104.
Affiliation agreements:
Contractual affiliation agreements for Gundersen must be in place at least 1 month before clinical placement. There is no guarantee that a contract will be successfully negotiated. Students cannot be placed or start a clinical rotation and/or project until the contract is in place.
