What do you need:
  • Master’s degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related discipline
  • American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics or the American Board of Medical Physics equivalent in Radiation Therapy Physics.

Job Description:

Ensures safe and accurate radiation delivery and patient safety through the management technical aspects of radiation delivery equipment. Maintains the quality assurance (QA) program and process development in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Provides education and training in radiation physics and supports the oversight of radiation safety and data management in Radiation Oncology.

Major Responsibilities 
1.    Collaborates with other senior staff to maintain the Quality Assurance (QA) program to comply with national standards. Monitors and measures the performance of all radiation therapy equipment. Calibrates radiation therapy equipment and performs QA as required.
2.    Evaluation and implementation of new technology and techniques. Ensures proper radiation protection standards are followed when implementing new equipment. Performs acceptance and commissioning of new equipment and educates staff on new technology and its implementation. Releases new technology for clinical use.
3.    Performs measurements, analysis and modeling of beam data for treatment planning purposes. Verifies all data and algorithms in the treatment planning system. Maintains all aspects of the treatment planning process.
4.    Maintains templates, checklists and therapy equipment in record and verify system
5.    Provides radiation safety education to staff. Leads the development of new competencies and assists in completion of competencies for other staff. 
6.    Responsible for all aspects of departmental radiation safety including personnel exposure monitoring, shipping, receiving and inventory of radioactive material as outlined by regulatory agencies. Develops, implements, and maintains radiation safety policies and procedures with other senior staff and the radiation safety officer. Performs shielding evaluations, calculations and radiation surveys when necessary.
7.    Responsible for all aspects of patient dosimetry including but not limited to patient-specific physics consultations as requested by the Radiation Oncologist, patient-specific quality assurance, in vivo dosimetry and special procedure (HDR, SBRT and SRS) oversight and consultation.
8.    Performs delivery of standard and complicated treatment planning and techniques which includes oversight of high dose radiation (HDR) brachytherapy and stereotactic procedures.
9.    Leads troubleshooting and works collaboratively with biomedical engineers as necessary.
10.    Works with other senior staff to establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures. 
11.    Leads efforts to maintain compliance of all state and federal regulating and accrediting bodies.
12.    Must obtain the status of Authorized Medical Physicist through the state of Wisconsin and be listed on the radioactive materials license list the company holds within 1 year of hire date
 

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Master’s degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related discipline

DESIRED

Doctorate or PhD in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related discipline

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

3-5 years of experience as an ABR certified physicist

DESIRED

5 years of experience as an ABR certified physicist

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics or the American Board of Medical Physics equivalent in Radiation Therapy Physics.
