Gundersen Health System is seeking a part-time Therapeutic Technician for our GI team in La Crosse! This is your opportunity to provide care to patients while doing the work you love in the beautiful Coulee Region.

What you will do:

  • Fulfill 72 hours per two weeks = 0.9 FTE
  • Rotation between 8 and 9 hour day shifts. Hours range from 6:30am to 5:30 pm Monday-Friday. 
  • Call shifts are once a week and every 5th weekend, dependent on staffing. Call is 5:30pm to 7:00am
  • Call weekend Friday 5:30pm to Monday 7:00am
  • Provide LOVE + MEDICINE to our patients
  • Provide advanced knowledge and skilled technical support to the Gastroenterology providers when performing therapeutic procedures.
  • Perform a variety of technical procedures on patients with physician direction.

What you need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Wisconsin Registered Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) OR
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) OR
  • A licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed to practice in the state of Wisconsin and any additional states of practice.
  • Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands-on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Job Description:

The GI Therapeutic Technician is responsible for providing patients with a safe and comfortable environment at all times. Provide advanced knowledge and skilled technical support to the Gastroenterology providers when performing therapeutic procedures. Perform a variety of technical procedures on patients with physician direction. The position requires the ability to make decisions consistent with Gundersen Health System policies and the strict observance of confidentiality of patient information. Independent study is required.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates professional accountability by maintaining a level of knowledge, confidentiality and skills defined in CBO/P, related to current and changing trends of patient care in order to deliver optimal, cost-effective care and achieve the mission and vision of Gundersen Health System.
2. Adjusts work patterns within the shift to accommodate changing patient and unit needs. Works flexible duty hours to provide adequate coverage for the GI Department by rotating emergent call on evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Travels to other departments as needed to provide expertise to assist providerwith therapeutic procedures.
3. Demonstrates satisfactory performance of therapeutic GI procedures at a high level of expertise at all times including critical patients and in emergent situations.
4. Performs patient care, technical skills and other assigned duties under the direction of RN, MD, PA, or NP, which there are protocols, written or verbal orders commensurate with education, experience and competency in order to maintain health, prevent illness or care for the ill.
5. Works with the health care team to effectively communicate and document relevant patient information across the continuum of care in order to achieve optimal, cost-effective care and maintain a completed and accurate medical record.
6. Acts as a resource person to other staff members. Assists physicians with procedures at regional centers and acts as a liaison for questions, procedures, equipment, etc.
7. Incorporates the patient/family's readiness to learn when reinforcing teaching initiated by RN, MD, PA, or NP, in order to achieve optimal, age-specific, and individualized care.
8. Participates in quality improvement activities in order to continuously improve patient care, health outcomes, and department operations. Performs product evaluations and produce analysis. Participates in staff meetings.

9. Witness waste of controlled substances with authorized staff in the state of Wisconsin. Will not witness waste in Minnesota and Iowa, both states require licensed individuals or registered pharmacy technician staff only to witness the waste of controlled substances.

10. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.

11. Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients.

12. Ensures patient safety.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency + completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program or Surgical Technician program or Licensed Practical Nursing program

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
1 year of health care experience in a CNA, LPN or Surgical Technician role.

DESIRED
2 years of experience in a CNA, LPN or Surgical Technician role

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED
Wisconsin Registered Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed to practice in the state of Wisconsin and any additional states of practice.
